Seti I is best know for being the father of Ramses II. However, when he became king, he had acted as vizier and knew a lot about the country. As soon as he became Pharaoh, he took action against several different groups of people who were trying to take over Egyptian lands. He was very successful. He made sure that Egypt's borders were secure against invaders.

Like many other kings, he liked to build temples. He started many that Ramses II, his son, finished.

Because Seti I was such a great king, Egypt had many years where they were not troubled by aggressors. That meant that a lot of new farmland was made and the people had plenty to eat and to sell.
