The greatest amount of precipitation falls in southwestern Lower Michigan and in western Upper Michigan. In general, Michigan receives an adequate amount of rain to support plant and animal life. Michigans climate is affected by Lake Michigan which keeps the state cooler in the summer, and Lake Superior which increases the snow fall in the winter.
